The ‘King of Kings’ statue of Jesus in Monroe, Ohio at the Solid Rock Church

Apparently, Jesus wasn’t a fan of “King of Kings” (also known as “Touchdown Jesus”), the 6-story statue of himself at the Solid Rock Church in Monroe, OH. The statue was struck by lightning and burned down to its frame last week.

People can draw all sorts of conclusions from this incident, but what really tickled my funny bone was what resulted from the damage.

PETA—that’s right, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals—offered to rebuild the statue, with one catch: that Jesus hold a lamb and say, “Blessed are the Merciful. Go Vegan.”

The church declined their offer, calling it “amusing.” Rev. Darlene Bishop told the Dayton Daily News, “We raise cattle.”

Sorry, PETA. Guess you’ll have to find other means of advertisement. Jesus ate lamb at Passover, anyway.
