Houston, We Have A Problem

Please tell me they’re joking. They have to be joking, right? There’s no way this is true!

The foremost mission of NASA — the National Aeronautic and Space Administration — is now to improve relations with the Muslim world?

I thought we were talking about NASA here. You know, the guys who went to the moon, took pictures of space, and popularized Tang.

And now we’re going to make the Muslim world “feel good about” themselves? I’m not making that up; Administrator Charles Bolden said, “to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science…”

Absolutely! Here’s a few right off the top of my head. Increased understanding of geology in arid climates, an in-depth study of the “fight-or-flight” response in an isolated sociopolitical setting, and a deeper understanding of dishonesty on an international scale. To be fair, in the 11th century, Ibn al-Haytham was important in developing the scientific method, but that was almost a thousand years ago.

Wanna compare to some of Israel’s contributions?

Aetherswift and the Archangel

As promised in Episode 9, I’ll respond here to voicemails that Scott Roche left us. They were a little long to play on the show, and I wanted to properly respond to each of his points.

Scott is the author of Archangel, which is a novel and voice-acted podcast. He also has a blog at http://www.spiritualtramp.com/. Spiritual “Tramp” sounds kind of odd to me, but whatev…

So first of all, I’d like to thank you, Scott, for listening and calling in. We always appreciate feedback, whether it’s in agreement or disagreement. And it’s always great to hear from another brother or sister in Christ! I hope that our debate can be productive and friendly—well, as friendly as redshift can be. I don’t take kindly to liberals. (HA! That was a joke. Sorry, I’m very sarcastic. Yeah.)

Let’s her what Scott had to say in response to our last episode, Episode 8: Texan Snow.

Voicemail 1:

Voicemail 2:

  1. Maurice Clemmons - This is kind of a sticky issue. Yes, I do support the death penalty. I think that should be an option for criminals who are found guilty in a court of law. I am not a judge, nor do I claim to have all of the answers (or any) in this area, but I draw my opinions from the Bible. The death penalty appears for various crimes and/or sins in the Old Testament, such as, in the case of Maurice Clemmons, murder (Genesis 9:5-6). Regarding the bail: it was set to a total of $190,000 for both the rape and the assault charges. What I spoke in opposition to was that he had a company (called Jail Sucks Bail Bonds) pay the bail off, and he only had to pay $15,000 to them in order to get out of prison (the company would accrue interest on what he owed). The fact that this is even possible is what I personally consider to be a complete injustice.
  2. God telling us/not telling us everything we need to know in the Bible - Naturally the Bible cannot tell us absolutely everything we will ever need to know in each unique circumstance. That would be impossible. I do believe, however, that the Ten Commandments can and do cover virtually every sin (I can’t even think of something that wouldn’t be covered at the moment), and the gifts of individual conscience and the Holy Spirit can fill in any details. God will always answer our prayers, and we will always find answers when we seek them from God. I don’t believe there is any “gray area.” Such is the nature of good and evil, of sin and perfection, of God and the absence of God— there is only pure light or some shade of darkness. There are no gray areas in heaven. Sorry if I might have gone off topic there; I’m not sure what your point specifically was.
  3. John Stewart - You’re right in assuming that Kij and I don’t watch his show… If you’re a big fan of his, I don’t want to condemn you or anything, but from what I’ve heard, he can have content on his show that is utterly disgusting to me. I’m glad to hear that he and Huckabee could treat each other with respect, when their worldviews seem to be completely opposite.
  4. Obama Osama - You didn’t think that was funny. If you’d like to discuss this further, please let me know why you don’t think it’s funny. You seemed really offended by it, which confuses me. Obama does have a Muslim name. He was raised Muslim and attended a Muslim school. He is constantly defending Muslims and doing everything in his power to release and/or excuse Muslim terrorists. Closing Guantanamo, giving a civil trial to 9/11 murderers, etc. He even bowed before the Muslim Saudi king. Drawing a connection there is only common sense, in my opinion.
  5. The war in Afghanistan – The troops that General McChrystal requested must exist, or he wouldn’t have requested them. I think it’s interesting how liberals want to spend money on everything but our military effort. In my opinion, if there is anything that the government really should spend money on, it is keeping us safe. But I never said that we should continue the war—I emphasized repeatedly that whatever we do, we do with our full strength. Whether it is continuing the war or coming home and defending against radical Islam from home, we should do it with fervor. Obama is committing military suicide by letting the enemy know not only that we will end the war, but exactly when we will pull our troops out. Sending more troops in just to take them back out makes no sense, and it’s apparent to me that what he did was a political move to attempt to appease both political parties and hang on to his dwindling popularity. Regarding the rules of engagement: of course we need some rhyme to our reason. I never suggested we run in to a city and blaze down civilians. But as it stands, we can’t even use intelligence to mark a target and take it out. Our men are unbelievably restricted, and it is resulting in a tragic slaughter of our troops. I say get in or out, and make that all in or all out.
  6. Family Guy - I’ve never seen them display any conservative views before the incident I discussed in Episode 8. There are no conservative characters in the show (except for Quagmire now apparently), but Brian is a main character who spews liberal philosophies almost constantly. In fact, his views are said to mirror the views of the creator of Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane. I don’t recall a liberal ever being made fun of. Thanks for the advice on watching it or not watching it… lol… but I had already explained my views on it pretty clearly in the episode. I advised listeners not to watch it because it contains plenty of, shall we say, non-family material that I would never promote on a Christian podcast.
  7. Macs and iTunes – Since that was primarily Kij’s beef, I’ll leave that up to him. All I know is, I’ve never ever ever seen anyone code on a Mac, nor have I ever met a coder who preferred Macs. And I’ve known plenty of coders. :)

Sounds to me like you listen to the liberal media. My brother, you need to be Levinitized. Check out the Mark Levin show at http://www.marklevinshow.com. He is a constitutional conservative with a NY Times bestselling book and a nationally-syndicated radio talk show. He takes liberal calls every show, and gets liberal guests on the show when they’re brave enough to come on. Cracks me up.
